Texas Ya'll

I am a southerner through and through. I lived in the south my entire life and then came to the northeast practically in my wedding dress almost 8 years ago. Needless to say when the opportunity came about for our growing family to make our way back down south- we jumped at it! I love and miss the incredible food, the generous-spirited people, the warm hospitality, and the fact that just about everyone reveres our wonderful Lord and raises their children to do the same, and the list just goes on and on. I am excited but nervous all at the same time, as I am dreading being the "new girl" all over again. We are trying to sell our house here, find a house there, a new church home, a college for my oldest, a kindergarten for my 5 year old, a preschool for my three year old, a pediatrician for all of them and an ob/gyn for myself as the newest family member is due around the end of August! I am feeling a little overwhelmed these days but I am just trying to "keep the faith" as folks say. Does anyone know anything about Texas? We are moving to the Dallas area. I've only visited there and it seems wonderful. I would be so grateful for any tips, ideas, suggestions or just any information you can send my way about moving in general with a family this size. Big Daddy thinks it would be "fun" to drive from the NY area all the way to Texas in an SUV with three little kids and a very pregnant wife. I just love how adventurous he is, but I have to say, that would probably send me over the edge! I would also be grateful for any prayers you could send our way as well!

Yay! I am excited you get to come back down south! Now you can have sweet tea whenever you want. I just wish you were coming to Charlotte!

I have family in Texas, but they are primarily in Houston. I am going to see if I can find out anything about Dallas. I will email you if I learn anything. Good luck with your move and I will be praying for you and your family!

By the way, I am in agreement about the drive! It sounds fun in theory, but it might be a little stressful!

PS - Martha Stewart has a chapter on moving in her homekeeping handbook. She has some very useful tips.

Wow, We are in the same boat! Hubby and I are going to Charleston to scope out the area(Schools, neighborhoods, houses ....) When I lay in bed at night I think of Really Silly things like who will wax my eyebrows? Both Hubby and I have lived in maryland since we were babies...scary!

Congrats on your upcoming move. Unfortunately, I have never been to Texas before so I don't have any tips for you.

Hang in there! It will all fall into place for you. I think if you can handle four kids and one on the way, you can handle anything! You are truly amazing to me!

One of my very best friends is moving from Dallas back to Nashville, I will give her your blog site and she can give you all the scoop. They have been living in an area between Dallas and Ft. Worth. They are actually still trying to sell their house I think?

Well be assured that you and your growing family and this move have already been in my prayers and will continue to be as that is a lot to take on, but I know you will do it as you do everything else in your life~ with grace and faith. All those little details can be so overwhelming~ I hope you can find someone to help get you started locally and that all those details come together soon. (hug)
Look out Texas!!

Some of the most exciting times come when moving. It can be fun being the new person again. Remember - the south isn't a destination it is a place. And there is no place like it.

We moved here from houston TX and you will find such welcoming hoptiality in TX! We drove! We even drove there for a visit with all 3 kids in the minivan last summer for a visit (21 hours EACH way). Good luck finding a house and the school etc. I am sure you won'r be "the new girl" for long;)

Oh my goodness! Good luck with everything - I am not so sure how I would feel about driving all that way in an advanced state of pregnancy - perhaps you and the youngest could fly and meet the others? My husband and I drove cross country from California to Michigan and back when I was six months pregnant with E, I won't go into detail, but there were some very uncomfortable side effects.

Wow...congratulations on your move! We (both of us Southerners) and really enjoyed our return back to the Southland. A friend of mine has a blog www.shabbymama.blogspot.com and she is a TX girl you might enjoy it. I found your lovely blog and can't wait to read more through A Journey to our Daughter and your title caught my eye so I had to check it out! I know I will be back. (((hugs)))

Just found your blog and I love it. I am in the Dallas area and can give you some recommendations for pediatricians in the North Dallas, Plano, Richardson area and all that should you need it. I know of a couple who we really like both in and out of the office. My kids are older than most of yours but we have been in this area forever and might be able to help. Good Luck! I am so envious of your big family!
